On the first day of his internship in Angola, Dylan Charles Ramberan, accompanied by members of CIMPAD and ICCOUNCIL meet with His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Jose Marcos Barrica -Executive Director of the Venancio De Moura Diplomatic Academy. Collaborations are made in this Academy includes all aspects of international development, including medicine, science and technology collaborations with multilateral partners from private sectors as well. This meeting, lasting approximately 40 minutes, served to introduce the Minister to CIMPAD and ICCOUNCIL and to outline their project for Angola.

Key Aspects of the Visit

  • Meeting with His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Jose Marcos Barrica -Executive Director of the Venancio De Moura Diplomatic Academy: The discussion primarily focused on the project's objectives, which included addressing issues Angola sought to improve, such as gender equality, education, increased youth involvement, and fostering more business in the country. He also had the opportunity to introduce himself to the Minister and explain his background and reasons for coming to Angola.

  • University Campus Tour: Following the meeting, Ramberan and the delegation toured the university campus. He was surprised by the advanced development of the facilities, which featured beautiful architectural designs and classrooms equipped with computers and books for research. This experience challenged his preconceived notions about Africa being 'poor' and 'unwealthy'’ leading him to realize that 'African countries are so much more valuable than what they are believed to be.'’

  • Meeting at Augustino De Neto School of Law: After lunch, the group proceeded to the Augustino De Neto School of Law to meet with members of the school board. This meeting, also lasting about 40 minutes, covered similar topics to those discussed with the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The day concluded with a 'family picture' before everyone returned to their hotels. Throughout the day, Ramberan observed that the Angolan people treat everyone like family, which made him feel welcome and comfortable during his first major overseas trip.
